Corrective Follicle Transplant Surgery
Now that transplant doctors can create natural hairlines and undetectable transplant results, many patients seek correction for the unnatural procedures of days past. Such corrective transplant surgery is offered at our facility. Correction for the unsightly "plugs" or "corn rows" is certainly obtainable and extremely satisfying. Corrective surgery is also requested for more recent procedures performed in an unsatisfactory manner with poor technique, choices, and planning. Any number of variables can result in unsatisfactory results, including:
- Plugs or corn rows
- Overly straight hairlines
- Hairline is too low or in an unnatural position
- Growing at wrong angles and directions
- Poor density
- Bad scarring
An unsatisfactory transplantation result may also simply be the result of poor density with the progression of follicle loss.
Corrective transplant surgery is often more challenging than a standard procedure. Depending on the cause(s) for the poor, unnatural result, corrective transplant surgery may include one or several of procedures:
- Removal of follicles in wrong positions (replaced further back)
- Removal of large "plugs" (trimmed and replaced further back)
- Follicular unit grafting to blend into unnatural hairlines or hairlines with improper angles and direction
- Follicular unit grafting simply to increase density
- Strip excisions of follicles in the wrong positions
- Brow lift to raise a low hairline
- Hairline advancement - possible use of tissue expander - to bring higher density hairlines forward
- Cranium reductions with grafting at a later date.
Depending on the extent of the corrective transplant surgery and the skills of the surgeon, a plastic surgeon may be more suitable for more involved corrective needs. The doctoris certified in many areas. For corrective transplant surgery, contact our office today!
